We held our piece of metal down on this door stop shaped piece of wood that had a triangular cut in it
We used a metal saw with tiny teeth to slowly and patiently saw the metal to the shape I wanted
I placed my metal shapes that I want soldered together on a ceramic tile and added a neon liquid named flux and then torched it until it turns white
Then you place these tiny tiny pieces of metal and heat it with a torch until it melts
Then you place your pieces on top of each other and lip it and then torch it and press on it with metal tweezers until red hot
Then drop it in the water
Then you can bring it to the polish machine and its a furry wheel that spins really fast and shines your piece
ETCHING PROCESS
First I got the metal strip and colored on it with a black sharpie because the acid doesn't eat away at the black part
Mrs barens then taped them to styrofoam and dipped it in the acid
Then my design is shown and you can bring it to the polish machine and its a furry wheel that spins really fast and shines your piece
Compare and Contrast
I liked my soldering project a lot more than the etching because i didn't really like the design i choose and i've realized from taking ceramics and metals and glass is that the more complex and hard and time taking project I do the better my piece looks and the more i like it. The etching one only took a couple days and the soldering took a couple weeks. To be honest I didn't like either of my pieces from this project but I do like the soldering one better because my design is a lot more clean.
